Caravan Craft Campfires
Campfires are our answer to the hoity-toity literary salon. They're low-stress, high-impact virtual gatherings for all who want to learn more about writing, publishing, and literary craft—and get their hands dirty in the process. Listen to a short presentation. Get in on the Q & A. Then experiment and explore (with guided prompts). Not a workshop, a campfire is a chance to gather with other writers in a no-pressure zone, hone our chops, exercise our skills, and tap into collective creative energy.

Hustle
Join the Caravan Crew for a no-holds-barred discussion of what the writing life is REALLY all about: HUSTLE.

Much as we love the art and craft of writing itself, the plain fact is that it takes work - lots of it - to get our writing out into the world, and that means hustle. The Caravan instructors have nearly 100 years of combined experience as working writers, and each of them brings insight and experience from a different area of the publishing world. We’ll gather to share some truths, as well as our tips, tricks, and proven strategies for making the work of writing…well, work.

Love (Not Sap)
Roses are red, violets are blue. We’re sick of sappy - bet you are too.
But who doesn’t have a love story or two to tell? This month, we’re going to talk about why it’s so dang easy to write badly about love, and what it takes to write about it well. Bring your love stories—gritty and gorgeous, happy and sad—and leave sentimentality at the door. We’ll get into what gives those heartfelt stories their depth and power.

Resist
This month, the talk around the Caravan Campfire will address both content and craft. Much as we love to get up close and personal with writing at the line level, we’ve got to keep our sights on what writing is for - and for many writers, art and activism go hand in hand, and are sometimes one in the same. This month, the Caravan crew will gather to talk about the social and political power of writing, and its capacity to make a difference in the world.

Divine Detail
As writers, we can sometimes put the cart before the horse, get ahead of ourselves, whether with an urgent disquisition or a pell-mell plot. But good writing isn’t just thinking on the page - it’s grounded in the specific, tethered to the real and brought to life by what Nabokov called ‘the divine detail.’ Join us to discover the wealth of power in your work’s details.
